How much to do
Hold for 30–60 seconds.

How to do it

  1. Stand with your feet a little wider than your shoulders and your toes turned slightly out.
  2. Bend your knees and sink your hips toward the floor.
  3. Settle into a deep squat, keeping your heels down.
  4. Bring your hands together and use your elbows to gently press your knees apart.
  5. Lift your chest tall and breathe as you hold.

How to breathe

It is a hold, not a breath-hold — keep breathing steadily the whole way through.

Common mistakes

  • Heels lifting off the floor. Sit your weight back into them; if they still lift, shorten the range or widen your stance.

  • Rounding your back. Lengthen your spine first, then move — the shape you start in is the shape you keep.
