How to do it
- Kneel upright with your knees hip-width apart and the tops of your feet on the mat.
- Rest your hands on your lower back with your fingers pointing down.
- Lift your chest and gently draw your elbows toward each other.
- Ease your hips forward and arch back, reaching for your heels if they come easily.
- Keep your neck long and hold, then rise slowly and rest.
How to breathe
Breathe in to lengthen, then let the exhale carry you a little deeper. Never force it.
Common mistakes
Cranking your neck back. Look at the floor a little ahead of you so your neck follows your spine.
Letting your lower back arch. Draw your ribs down and squeeze your glutes to keep it flat.
Pushing into pain. A stretch should feel like tension, never a sharp edge; back off until it does.
