How much to do
Hold for 20–30 seconds.

How to do it

  1. Kneel upright with your knees hip-width apart and the tops of your feet on the mat.
  2. Rest your hands on your lower back with your fingers pointing down.
  3. Lift your chest and gently draw your elbows toward each other.
  4. Ease your hips forward and arch back, reaching for your heels if they come easily.
  5. Keep your neck long and hold, then rise slowly and rest.

How to breathe

Breathe in to lengthen, then let the exhale carry you a little deeper. Never force it.

Common mistakes

  • Cranking your neck back. Look at the floor a little ahead of you so your neck follows your spine.

  • Letting your lower back arch. Draw your ribs down and squeeze your glutes to keep it flat.

  • Pushing into pain. A stretch should feel like tension, never a sharp edge; back off until it does.
