How much to do
Work 30–45 seconds per interval.

How to do it

  1. Lie on your back with your legs extended and your hands tucked under your hips for support.
  2. Lift both heels a few inches off the floor and brace your abs.
  3. Kick your legs up and down in small, quick alternating movements.
  4. Keep your legs nearly straight and your toes pointed.
  5. Hold a steady rhythm for the prescribed time.

How to breathe

Keep a steady rhythm rather than matching each rep — the pace is high enough that holding your breath will cost you.

Common mistakes

  • Letting your lower back peel off the floor. Press it down, and end the set the moment you cannot.

  • Rushing. Speed hides the range; slow down until the last rep looks like the first.
